Ditching Blogger

December 21st, 2006

I am in the process of ditching Blogger. Waaaaay too many problems getting things posted cleanly. I am now taking WordPress for a walk around the block. Please be patient while I work out the kinks. The old blog is still there, but impossible to update.

My (Semi) Secret All- Time Favorite Photographers List *

September 9th, 2006

John Milisenda

In recent months my secret list* has looked something like this:

1: John Milisenda
2: XXX XXXXXXXX
3: XXXX XXXXXX
4: XXXX XXXX
5: XXXXX XXXXXXX

Who else is on the list? Well, wouldn’t you like to know…

*(s)satfpl is subject to change at anytime without prior notification, clarification, or any compelling reason, really. The truth is, I have been thinking about whether or not it should be a ‘favorite photographic projects’ list instead. When is the last time you fell in love everything a photographer has done?

Another One From the List

Shawn Records

Shawn is another photographer on my list (the good list). He lives in Portland, Oregon. Tonight I had salmon for dinner, sort of in his honor and sort of by coincidence. Good ole Minnesota grocery store salmon. This image is from the project La Playa.

Doug Dubois

I saw Doug Dubois’ photographs of his family when they were part of The Pleasures and Terrors of Domestic Comfort at the Museum of Modern Art. I didn’t see the show. I saw the catalogue. 15 years later I was introduced to Doug at Photolucida. He unrolled a set of recent portraits of his brother, sister, mother, and father. It felt like a reunion.

Last night the Twins clinched a playoff spot. They knocked the White Sox out of contention for good. No October baseball for Chicago. Sorry, Jon. I can’t help but feel partly responsible. The image above is from Jon’s book I Wave in Front of Every Apartment That I’ve Ever Lived in Except for One. Find more of his work at thegit.net. Check out the blogs. If you only look at one entry while there, make it The Big Fake Out.
